The Outreach Department of Kitgum Core Primary Teachers’ College welcomes you to understand more about the department. The department was established in 1994 under the Primary Education Reform Programme (PERP). The Deputy Principal Outreach (DPO), heads the department and it handles the training of In-service Primary school teachers in up grading courses, conducting Continuous Professional Development (CPD), developing the Coordinating Center into a Model School, Conducting guidance and canceling, coaching and mentoring of school administrators, and teachers through Peer Group Meeting (PGM), Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in the cluster school and Community Mobilization.
The department works closely in a collaborative manner with the teachers, school administrators, Parents, community leaders and sub county/district/municipal/Ministry of Education and Sports officials to effect positive changes in attitudes, skills, methods, planning, techniques, knowledge and many other things. All these elements mentioned are interrelated and influence improved children learning hence need collective effort of the various stake holders.
The above activities are done in a synergistic tactics at the school/community level. It covers intervention, support, assistance and supervision by the Center Coordinating Tutors (CCT) with those who influence improved learning.
Specific to Kitgum CPTC, the outreach department stretches to four (4) administration units namely; Lamwo, Agago, Pader and Kitgum districts. A small unit joined to Kitgum district is Kitgum Municipal Council. The four administration units hold twenty one (21) Coordinating Centers with 21 CCTs. These 21 centers are the arms that the government through the Ministry of Education and Sports uses it to make Basic Education at Pre-primary and Primary education to reach the communities.
