Kitgum Core Primary Teachers’ College is a government founded and funded Institution Established in May 1982 for the training of Grade III Primary Teachers. It is in Lemo East Cell, Greenland Parish, Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality. The College started from Kitgum District Farm Institute due to lack of funds to put up buildings at new site in Lemo East.
The College started with one class of 45 male and female students. There were five (5) Tutors including the Principal. The pioneers’ students were passed out in April 1984 with 22 of them successful as Grade III teachers. The performance of the college had been very encouraging all along though it decline Drastically during the times of northern insecurity.
In 1998, the status of the College was elevated to be a Core P.T.C due to the then Reform in Primary Education. The name of the reform was Teacher Development and Management System (TDMS) which had been launched in 1994. This reform increased the roles and functions of the College in its catchment areas of Kitgum District, Pader, Agago, and Lamwo in implementation of Universal Primary Education, Early Childhood Education and other interventions and innovations that come up from time to time. The college now plays an outreach and pervasive function.
